The deepest, most delicious apple flavor you can possibly get in applesauce.
Prep Time 15 minutes
Cook Time 40 minutes

Course: Side Dish, Snack
Cuisine: American

Ingredients

  • 3 lbs apples (about 10 medium) I used mostly green apples, with a few red
  • 1/4 cup coconut sugar
  • 1/4 cup water
  • 1 tsp apple cider vinegar
  • 1/2 tsp cinnamon
  • 1/8 tsp nutmeg
  • pinch cloves
  • pinch salt
  • 3 tbsp butter

Equipment

  • 9x13 glass casserole or large sheet pan
  • Food Processor or food mill

Method

  1. Preheat oven to 425 degrees Fahrenheit. Core apples and slice (if you prefer to peel the apples, do so before slicing). Place apples in casserole dish.
  2. Mix together coconut sugar, water, apple cider vinegar, cinnamon, nutmeg, cloves, and salt. Pour over apple slices and toss together. Cut butter into pieces and scatter on top of apples.
  3. Bake for 30-40 minutes, stirring once halfway through. Apples are done when you can easily pierce them with a fork. Remove from oven, let cool slightly, then puree in a food processor. Store in a jar in the fridge for up to 7 days.
